integerated curriculum for Nutrition Learning

integerated curriculum for Nutrition Learning

Sowing seeds, tilling the soil, harvesting the produce, cooking the bounty are all combined in an integrated curriculum provided by a grant from the Milagro and W. K. Kellogg Foundations.  Facilitated by Marika Bergsund, the three-year grant involves age-appropriate nutrition learning for all grade levels.

From Kindergartners to Middle School students, science, nutrition, history, culture, language arts, and math are all part of the exercise in making gardens grow.   Students plant seeds, study weather and soil conditions, learn about growing seasons and measure the success of their plantings.  Nutrition lessons for each grade level educate students about the importance of taking care of their bodies by eating fresh, whole foods v. the processed foods they see on TV.
